I have conflicting opinions on this book. If you ask me about the characters, the writing style, and the ending, I would automatically give a great review. The author does a fantastic job of creating unique characters and voices. The reader will learn to love or hate certain characters, especially as the book progresses. The writing style includes detailed descriptions that allow the reader to picture what Shauna is going through, which is extremely helpful when it comes to her memories and dreams.

However, if you ask me about the plot I have mixed feelings. Overall, I enjoyed it. I liked the mystery aspect of Shauna trying to piece her life together post accident. It takes a bit to build and figure out exactly what is going on, but I think the length of the book is appropriate. There is one aspect of the plot I didn’t think was entirely explained as well as it could have been. As Shauna begins to piece together her past, she discovers she is able to take memories from certain individuals. I understand how this is vital to the plot and Shauna remembering what happened, however I feel the execution wasn’t complete. I don’t mind the memory wipe part, just not the stealing memories. Perhaps if that angle was flushed out more, I could appreciate it.

As I said, overall I enjoyed the novel. Ted Dekker is one of my go-to authors and it was interesting to read a book that he co-authored. I look forward to reading more of his books in the future.

About the Book:
Let me tell you all I know for sure. My name. Shauna.3851380

I woke up in a hospital bed missing six months of my memory. In the room was my loving boyfriend—how could I have forgotten him?—my uncle and my abusive stepmother. Everyone blames me for the tragic car accident that left me near death and my dear brother brain damaged. But what they say can’t be true—can it?

I believe the medicine is doing strange things to my memory. I’m unsure who I can trust and who I should run from. And I’m starting to remember things I’ve never known. Things not about me. I think I’m going crazy.

And even worse, I think they want to kill me.

But who? And for what? Is dying for the truth really better than living with a lie?
